Whilst the Native Instruments Kontrol X1 is getting a lot of interest and exposure, a few things did cross my mind when training with NI on the Kontrol X1.

Obviously the Kontrol X1 is designed to compliment Traktor Scratch Pro timecode users and even Serato Scratch Live users (as it comes with the SSL template overlay).  But what about us full digital DJ controllerists looking for an all-in-one controller such as Vestax has offered with the Vestax TR-1 and VCI-100?

Serato Scratch Live (SSL) was probably the first reliable and professional Digital Vinyl System (DVS) after Final Scratch. There are many SSL users out there with thousands of tracks in their database who would love to take the jump to Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro system which offers the same reliability if not better and a lot more advanced technology plus features on offer.

The timecode version 0.0.2 fixes a potential issue with CD decks from certain manufacturers (such as Stanton C324).

With these CD decks, the scope panel in Traktor displayed “Skipping” with the original timecode even while the CD played normally. This will not happen with the updated timecode version 0.0.2 anymore.

Over the past year or so joint owner of Infrasonic Recordings, Michael Smith, has helped forge a brand of successful trance releases to the digital world. As time has gone on the Infrasonic Recordings label has since grown in stature and is now a recognised label within the trance music industry with a lot of support from the superstars such as Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Judge Jules, Ferry Corsten, Simon Patterson and a whole lot more around the globe.

With an artist roster including a lot of more recognised talents such as Andy Tau, Sean Truby, Mike Nichol, Hensha, Deep Care and Acute, the label looks to be seen as an established brand offering a lot of ’stepping stone’ opportunities to the up and coming trance pr0ducer, more-so with the invent of Infrasonic Future.

Always gaining top chart positions on the usual digital download stores such as Beatport, Audiojelly etc, the label certainly seems to be heading in the right direction even recently gaining top spot for tune of the week in the UK’s Mixmag.

Not only does Michael take a lot of time with new faces and future prospects from the promotions he gets sent every week, he also works very hard on his own productions, remixes and releases under the name of ‘Solis‘ along with DJ gigs through the ‘MK X‘ signature.  Read on for an insight to his worth of Infrasonic…

We thought we would catch up with him and his world of Infrasonic, the producers and their tools and what he sees for the future of trance productions and releases…
